Cell Phone Elbow?

Hold the phone! According to the CTIA-Wireless Association, over 250 million Americans subscribe to cell phone service, and over 1 out of 5 households are cell-phone only. It’s one thing to get a work-related injury like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome from typing all day, but now we have to worry about pinched nerves from using our phones??

It turns out Cell Phone Elbow is caused from bending your arm for an extended period of time, which compresses your ulnar nerve. This causes a loss of blood flow, reduced mobility and pain. So what’s a cell phone user to do? Here are some suggestions:

  • Rotate ears frequently. If you feel any tension in your arm, switch hands. This will aid circulation.
  • If you’ve been on the phone for a long time and are feeling tension, swing your arms around and try to loosen them up. Stretching is also extremely beneficial.
  • Go hands free! This is a safe alternative for many reasons. Many people get injured when they’re distracted by their phones. In fact, several people have been badly injured recently because they were tweeting on their phones and not paying attention to what they were doing. These injuries are being called Twinjuries…Please avoid Twinjuries. It’s completely unnecessary and pretty embarrassing.
  • Use your cell phone less. This can be very liberating! Turn it off for an afternoon. If you’re used to getting work calls or stressful texts and time-consuming emails, take a vacation. We managed to get on just fine before we started using cell phones. We can surely survive without them now.
  • If you’re already experiencing Cell Phone Elbow, treatments include injections, ultrasounds to loosen scar tissue, or chiropractic care. Unfortunately, all of these are very expensive.
  • The best thing you can do to relieve your pain quickly is to use a topical pain reliever like MyOmega™. Not only does it work quickly, but it lasts up to 6 hours. Give your forearm a therapeutic rub with MyOmega™ Triple Strength Pain Relief Rub for a blast of cooling relief. A little massage will loosen up your muscles and get you on your way to pain-free cell phone use! For a more intense massage, try MyOmega™ Penetrating Heat Therapy Cream. This timed-release heating cream uses Capsaicin to virtually melt away the pain. Best of all, it works better over time. An excellent choice for the regular cell-phone user.

MyOmega™ is available at CVS or online right here.

Do you suffer from chronic pain?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 14, 2009 by myomegapain

Chronic pain is very different from acute pain. While acute pain is your body’s way of alerting you to a possible injury, chronic pain is usually a result of past damage. It is persistent and can last for months, weeks or even years. Some causes include arthritis, past injuries or tissue damage, cancer, or certain neurological diseases.

If you suffer from chronic pain, you doctor may recommend oral medications, acupuncture, or even surgery. There are many alternative ways to help with your pain management. Some include psychotherapy, meditation, improved sleep and behavior modification. Studies have shown that a lack of sleep can lower your threshold for pain by 24%*. Unfortunately, chronic pain often causes a lack of sleep, leading to a seemingly endless cycle that is difficult to manage.

The Power of Topical Analgesics

The problem with oral drugs like opioids or narcotic analgesics is that your body builds up a tolerance, and you can become addicted. It is not ideal for long-term pain management. Unlike opioids, topical analgesics are FDA approved, non-addictive and can actually work better over time. Capsaicin has been shown to deplete Substance P, the chemical in your body that signals your brain that you are in pain. When used regularly, this chemical is gradually diminished and you will actually experience less pain over time.

Try MyOmega™ Penetrating Heat Therapy Cream, a Capsaicin-based topical warming pain reliever that soothes away muscle and joint pain while helping you reach your long-term pain management goals. This advanced formula works quickly to relieve joint pain, muscle aches, cramps and the pain associated with arthritis. It also features timed-release IcePearls™, a soothing cooling complex designed to last up to 6 hours. Make it a part of your pain management plan today.
